You will have plenty of time to explore the colonial history, local markets, countryside, Phnom Sampov and the Bamboo Train of Battambang without feeling rushed every single day.

A 1-day Battambang itinerary is perfect if Battambang is a stopover between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Two days is enough to see the main attractions at a leisurely pace. If Battambang itself is a big draw and you want to spend more time in the countryside then 3 days is better.

The best time to visit Battambang is on a day trip between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. The route focuses on the city’s colonial history and local life before ending at Phnom Sampov for sunset and the Bat Cave.

2-Day Battambang

Two days is the best balance for most first-time visitors. The first day covers Battambang’s colonial history and local food culture, while the second adds the Bamboo Train, traditional Khmer architecture and time to continue onward to Phnom Penh.

3-Day Battambang: The Full Experience

Three days is the best choice if Battambang itself is a destination rather than simply a stop between cities. The extra time allows you to combine the historic center with rural villages, local food production, Phnom Sampov and the Bamboo Train without packing everything into one or two days.

Day 1: Arrival & Phnom Sampov

The drive from Siem Reap takes about 3 hours. Sala Khet details the province’s administrative history during the colonial period. Then hotel check-in and rest. The day ends with sunset at Phnom Sampov where the nightly spectacle of thousands of bats pouring from the mountain’s caves takes place.

Day 2: Local Life & Countryside
